Zeitgeist On Wheels

Our Volunteer Plans

One of the OnWheels goals is to have a positive effect on the communities that we speend time in.  This is a low budget trip, and one of the ways that we can repay the generosity people offer us is by serving the local community, wherever that may be.

This page is designed to list any upcoming community services and out reaches we have planned, as well as detail past volunteer work.

Schoolhouse Supplies

Did you know that the average PPS teacher spends up to $1000 from their own pockets to purchase supplies for their classrooms or for students whose parents cannot afford to purchase school supplies? Schoolhouse Supplies collects new and used supplies and uses these items to stock a unique store for Portland Public School teachers - where everything is free! The program touches the lives of thousands of children in need and helps teachers create an exceptional learning environment.

Our duties change from month to month. We may be sorting and shelving donated books or supplies, assembling materials for mailings or special projects, cleaning and organizing in the Schoolhouse Supplies Free Store, or helping staff with another immediate need.

Whatever we're doing, this project is a lot of fun and you’ll know that you’re helping a struggling school system with materials that will go directly to teachers and students.

Rebuilding Center

Reduce, recycle, reuse!  Help reduce the flow of useable building materials into the waste stream by volunteering at the Rebuilding Center's non-profit store for used building materials.  We'll be doing a hands-on project, so come ready to work and have fun! Closed toe shoes required and bring work gloves if you have them. Wear warm clothes as the building is chilly. Some tasks may involve medium to heavy lifting. Youth welcome with parent or guardian. Enter thru Cobb structure doors. Please be as punctual as possible.
